Imagine a home where daily conversations go like this-
He: Hey, babe! I would like to have doggy style today in the laundry room.
She: Hmmm, interesting! I never thought of that but let’s try it and see how it goes.
She: Darling, I would like us to have shrimp sauce and noodles for lunch today. I really do not want to cook an elaborate meal.
He: Hmmm… I am not sure about that because I was looking forward to a heavy lunch but I know you are amazing. Let’s try it!
He: Babe, I gave our next-door neighbour half of my salary because he is in deep need and I really wanted to help him.
She: Wow! Now, I do not like that idea because it will affect our budget for this month. I trust your judgment, though and I know you will find a way to cushion the effects on us.
Am I the only one who is excited at the bliss we would enjoy in our society if couples chose to live like this without blame or manipulation? No name calling, no shaming, only peace, trust and acceptance. Idyllic? Fantasy? You may be right.
I got this while meditating recently and decided to share: “Ini, marriage is an institution where husband and wife should relish each other, not caution each other. God is not calling you to be his wife to correct and mould him but to relish and adore him. He is complete, perfect and whole with perfect desires and longings; respect his decisions and see your marriage blossom in sweetness.”
Does it mean our spouses do not have the potential to make mistakes or wrong decisions? No! In my understanding, this speaks of acceptance. It means that we have to choose to honour their decisions; to treat them with respect ; to love them even when they act differently from us.
Biko, I love this ‘rhema’ and I am holding on to it henceforth. I hope you commit to practising it and that together, we’ll create better societies where love and acceptance holds sway.
Today, I celebrate my aunty- Mfon Nsese. She is one woman I know who simply enjoys being with her husband while accepting his idiosyncrasies. God is using her to make my wife material longer; it will soon reach 5,000,000 yards. Lol!
